These rules have been changed slightly

to mimic a REAL Texas Hold ‘Em

We plan to use a variation on Texas Hold’ Em. You will travel to outlying airports (at least two, but as many as seven—which improves your odds of a good hand!) to collect one poker card per airport. You will arrive back at GCAC before 4:00 pm and receive your final card. Compose your best 5-card poker hand from the cards you collected plus the (3) shared community cards.

Since there are three community cards, you’ll need to collect at least two (2) offsite cards to compose a playable hand. Collecting additional cards from other airports will simply improve your odds of creating a winning hand.

Participation from all of the airports / FBOs has been confirmed. No registration is required! Just fly out, get your cards, and have fun. I’ll be sending out enough cards to support up to 20 participants, which should be more than adequate. Get your outlying airport cards as soon as you can! If the airport runs out of cards before you get yours, you need to fly to another airport!!  For those airports that are not staffed on Sunday, I have made arrangements for them to have the cards inside the FBO for you to get one.  Please only take one card per airport!!!

DECK PREPARATION:

Prior to the event, the cards from five decks will be shuffled, individually sealed in envelopes marked to identify the airport of origin, and sent to each FBO to arrive during the last week of May.

GAME RULES:

1. Each person may play ONE hand in the game. All pilots/passengers are eligible to participate. Playing a hand costs $10, payable in cash back at GCAC when the game begins. Players must “ante” up and register for the game before the game play commences. Once the first envelope is opened, the game is “sealed” and additional participants may not join the game.

2. Players may visit any two (2), and up to nine (7) of the outlying airports (KAWG, KIOW, KMUT, KFFL, KMPZ, KOTM, KOOA & KTZT). Each player shall obtain ONE sealed envelope containing a playing card from each airport they visit. The FBO staff will provide one card per player, so you must “be present” to play. Non-playing passengers (along for the ride, but not playing a hand in the Poker Run) should NOT obtain a card! Airports may be visited in any order as long as you return back to GCAC by 4:00 pm. Washington (KAWG) is holding a Fly-In breakfast that morning until 11:00 am, so you may wish to make that your first stop.

3. DO NOT open the cards you retrieve from the airports!!!  They must REMAIN SEALED until you return to GCAC when the tourney begins! Opened/tampered envelopes will be considered void and may not be played.

4. Game Play;

a) You must return to GCAC by 4:00pm; game play will commence then, or shortly thereafter. Players are encouraged to be present to play their hand and win! The player’s cards will remain sealed for play in front of all players by the judges.

Each player will, in turn, be called to ;

b) Present their sealed cards to the judges for inspection and pay their $10 cash entry fee. To be valid for play, the player’s hand must be comprised of at least two (2), but not more than eight (8) cards, one (1) each from the outlying airports the player visited and one (1) upon arrival at IA24. Each airport has unique cards and the envelopes are marked accordingly—two (2) cards from the SAME airport are NOT allowed to be in any player’s hand.

c) The player will open up two (2) of his/her cards in front of the judges. The player will then have the opportunity to keep his/her current hand or if in possession of more cards, determine whether they are wanting to “better” their hand. The player then must discard one of the 2 prior to opening a new card. Once the final hand is completed and recorded, the player will then return to their seat, in possession of his/her cards, for the actual game play.

d) Once all players have registered for the game and paid their entry fees, a final call for players will be made. With no more players registering, the judges will proclaim “Game On!”, and the community cards will be opened and presented to the players, one at a time. The community cards will be:

1) The Flop (Gear Up)

2) The Turn (Procedure, that is)

3) The River (White, of course)

e) The players will be asked by the judges, one at a time, to proclaim what their “best hand” is, composed from the two (2) they hold and all of the community cards. For example, a player may say they have a Full House composed of a pair of kings in their hand, a pair of community twos and the community king. If a player needs assistance to determine their “best hand”, they may ask another player or the judges to help them score their hand.

f) Once all players have pronounced their best hand, an opportunity to challenge the results will be made. If a hand is challenged, two judges will review. If a judge is a participant in the game, and has a dispute on their own hand, an alternate judge will participate in the decision. Their majority decision will be final and binding upon the players.

5. Prizes for the top three and for the worst hands are provided by the gracious of donation of intartia created by Club Member, Bob Dunn.  First place chooses first, second chooses second and so on  Here are pictures:

 

6. A consolation prize will be awarded for “worst hand”, just for fun, so stay around if you don’t win one of the top three spots, and enjoy the laughs that will follow.

Judges;

There will be three primary and one alternate judges for this event. The alternate judge will serve if any of the primary judges are not available, or if a primary judge is contesting his/her own hand. The following individuals have volunteered (thank you!):

For those interested, we will be having a spot landing contest on your return back to GCAC.  Call ahead on the UNICOM frequency if you plan to include yourself in the competition.  You will have 3 attempts upon your return.
