I was Googling "Ercoupe" for some data to use on a scale RC model and was amazed to find the shots of old N3893H. I used to fly that bird when it belonged to Narirroc Flyers and EAA-383 in my home town of Manitowoc, WI in the '70's while I was an Aeronautical Engineering student at U of MN. I have fond memories of that little ship. I graduated from Uof MN in 1978 and moved out to Seattle to work for Boeing where I'm now a Technical Fellow in Aerodynamics working on advanced commercial aircraft R&D. I also teach Aircraft Design at U of Washington part-time. I've had a chance to work on a number of great projects including 767, 777, 787, supersonic transport research, and I was the inventor of the "Sonic Cruiser". Tell your younger members to stick with it and follow their dreams. And take care of the old 'coupe. It's extremely hard to predict the exact amount of money it will take to get a pilot license. The biggest factor is actually... money itself. It's known that if you have a budget (and time) that let's you take 2-3 lessons a week, the whole thing will end up to be much cheaper because your son won't spend time relearning things he already forgot.
