MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 26, 2020 BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING (Tonight’s delicious meal prepared and served by Andy Orszula and his Daughter ) The meeting was called to order by President Rick Treiber at 6:30 p.m. OTHER BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chris Lenz, Tim Scheer, Jim Beeghly, and Andy Orszula. MEMBERS PRESENT: Brett Lenz, Paige and Flynn Lenz , Dean Beranek, Bob Kline, Larry Clore, Joe DeMaria, Helen Orszula (Andy’s Daughter), and Mark Eads GUESTS PRESENT: David Reel and his son Christian Reel were present. Christian is interested in the Bill Kimble Scholarship and a discussion would follow the Meeting. SECRETARY’S REPORT: The minutes of the February 19, 2020 Board of Directors meeting were read by Chris. Jim asked that the discussion referenced by Gary Lust about the responsibility of the Pilot to maintain the status board in the flight office regarding the airworthiness of the airplanes that they intended to fly, be emphasized. This was followed by a brief discussion. Andy moved with second by Jim that the minutes be accepted. Vote taken; Motion carried. TREASURERS REPORT: Rick reported that Randy was on vacation and would return with a full report for the next meeting. General report is that we are doing well for this time of year. AIRCRAFT STATUS REPORTS: The radio from N84455 was taken up to Rockford for evaluation and repair as necessary. The repair is not what was believed to be the problem but getting it fixed. The airplane will go to Rockford on the 11th of March for re-installation and testing. The Arrow is due for Transponder Recertification on March 11th. There is so much interest is in the insurance for the Chief and Ercoupe that the Chief will come back under insurance this weekend and be available for scheduling. Mike is going over it making sure it is ready to go. The Ercoupe will have to wait for a check on a reported AD review and an apparent flutter issue reported by a member. Chris is going to try to get the ADSB unit installed prior to the review of the issue. The engine case for 7717U has been line bored and is being finished up within the next week so, re-assembly is “all” that is left. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Rick reported that if there was not a quorum for this meeting it was going to be work session to move the simulator over into the shop area. Quorum was reached so it is still on the back burner. NEW BUSINESS: Rick reported he had put the Block Time email out for reduced rates on the Chief and the Ercoupe and he has already received 6-8 hits on it so far since this afternoon. He quickly reviewed the rates published earlier today. Chris Lenz moved with second by Jim Beeghly that we adjourn. Vote taken; Motion carried. Treasurer's Report: Randy reported money is about gone as we’ve had some pretty large bills come in (e.g., 17U). 2. Airplanes: Everything should be up and running by the time peak flying season arrives. It’s been reported the Ercoupe has exhibited wing flutter, so that will be checked with the ADS-B is certified. Both the Chief and Ercoupe will be back on line March 1. 3. CFII Gary Lust reminded us of the importance of the pilot to enter information regarding the airworthiness of our airplanes on the dry erase board on the north wall of the office post-flight. Please try and remember to do this very simple task.NEW BUSINESS:1. Bob Dunn’s long-time special friend, Emily (Em) Norden passed away this week. She’s been a real supporter of the Club, has been a good friend, and fed us delicious desserts for years and we know Bob as well as Club members will miss her. We’ll send flowers for the service.2. Everyone seems happy with the Wednesday night dinner arrangements. If anyone other than the six previously-reported volunteers would like to provide dinner, please let Mike Mango know and he’ll put you on the calendar.Randy moved with second by Jim that we adjourn. Chris said the sky beacon for the Ercoupe should be in tomorrow. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Indian Hills would like to use the Arrow again for instruction. They’re been a good customer in the past so we’ll have the same arrangement as before. 2. The EAA chapter here at Green Castle will meet the second Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m. 3. We’ll do a flyover and will hand out balsa wood airplanes. 4. Ryan, Randy, Joe, and Sri will check on the new sim and see what it needs to get it running. 5. The Quad Cities Challenger II (a great light sport trainer) has arrived and is hangared. The owner is asking $17,000-$18,000 if anyone would like to buy it. 6. Mike asked that a chef-of-the-week schedule be established so one or two people don’t get stuck with providing the meal on Wednesday evenings. Volunteers are: Rick Treiber. Mike Mango, Bob Kline, Dean Beranek, Andy Orszula, and [reserve] Jonathan Lartigue. Mike made out a schedule and Karo will email it to the volunteers. If anyone else in the Club would like to be an outstanding member who is willing to provide a meal (home-cooked, ordered pizza, spaghetti, subs, etc.), please let Mike know. If a scheduled member isn’t able to provide a meal on his night, it’s the member’s responsibility to find a substitute. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Rick proposed we do a membership drive this spring and would also like to have a member appreciation day. We have a lot of members who never fly but keep up on their dues to support the Club. Chris moved with second by Randy that we have a member appreciation day April 25 (rain date May 2). We’ll provide lunch and give them airplane rides. 2. Ryan said Iowa City raised their rates to $150 and instructors to $50. 3. Mike requested a seminar or class on the ADS-Bs. Ryan and Chris will put something together. 4. Discussion was held re Rick’s idea of purchasing a copy of Foreflight out here or if those who would use it already have personal copies. Ryan said he can do a seminar on Foreflight to give everyone an idea of all it’s capable of doing. Chris moved with second by Jim that we adjourn. Vote taken; Motion carried.
