Flight Training Syllabus
Although not required, using a syllabus can improve training efficiency and retention. If your flight instructor does not have a preference, then Rod Machado’s flight training syllabus will provide you with a clear, logical roadmap for learning to fly. His syllabus breaks training into simple, well-organized lessons that are easy to follow and build on naturally. It helps students focus on what to learn and when, so progress stays efficient, structured, and a lot less mysterious.
Pre-Solo Ground Syllabus
Rod Machado's or Green Castle Aero Club's Ground Training Syllabus are two excellent options for students at Green Castle. Your flight instructor may have their own syllabus. If not, using one of these choices will ensure you cover all required knowledge areas efficiently and effectively on your way to your first solo flight. Rod Machado's follows his Flight Training Syllabus, and the books cost between $100-$150. The alternative Green Castle syllabus mirrors the topics of Rod Machado's while utilizing free FAA publications like the Airplane Flying Handbook and Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge. Either syllabus is a great choice. Choose the one that works best for you.
FAR 61 Solo Training Requirements
Regardless of the flight or ground training syllabus you're using, FAR Part 61 lists specific ground and flight training requirements that must be met before a student pilot can solo for the first time.
